"It's Arbitrary" Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Gat R Done: Greetings-

Finders are reporting that this cache is over 100 feet from the posted coordinates. That was the main reason this cache was disabled and archived in the first place. A river should not have any bearing on the accuracy of the coordinates.

Please obtain an accurate set of coordinates and email those to me. I will update and unarchive the cache after accurate coordinates have been reported for stage one.

Contact me via my profile page with any updates.

Thank You for your understanding.

Geocache Description:

This is a somewhat tricky two-stage multi-cache located in the northeast tip of the Carleton Cowling Arboretum.

Nice secure trackable hotel, as very unlikely anyone would just stumble upon the final stage.

Best parking is approached from either 47 or 19.
If you come from 47 you cross the new cement bridge (next to the old Iron Bridge) and the parking is another 500 feet ahead on your right.
If you come from 19 the parking is just past the big S curve and will be tucked in the trees on your left.

It's a short walk to the first stage, which will give the coords for the container with the logbook & swag.
***THE PATH FROM THE PARKING IS NOT THE BEST ROUTE. JOG A BIT NORTH, THEN HEAD WEST!***

***Stage One is "highly"-camoflaged, and is not likely to be disturbed by floodwaters, - even if there were several feet of water, a canoeist or kayaker could still access Stage One.***

There are certainly times of the year when the final stage, and even the first stage may be inaccessible by foot due to flooding.

However, it's really 'arb'itrary when this cache is flooded and entirely up to the seasonal water levels.
The other thing that is so arbitrary is the GPSr's ability to accurately locate the stages.

The nearby water and thick overgrowth usually makes the error +/-50 feet sometimes.
Use your device to get in the area, then get out your thinking cap and start hunting.

This cache will challenge your deductive skills and your ability to make your way through the burrs, thorns and chest high grasses. A bee-line from the parking will lead to much bushwhacking. There is a way to get to both stages by following the natural floodwash.

Don't be intimidated, just take your time and use your head.

The final is loaded with nice swag and (had) a decent FTF prize.

Both stages are appropriately camo'd.

Thanks for playing!

*****Congratulations to Paklid for the FTF!*****
***He got the FTF prize, a new base plate compass.***
