A little history of Bethlehem Baptist Church:
During the Civil War, Oak Grove Baptist Church in Utica, KY
had many black members. They were slaves of the white members. The
number ranged from eleven in 1861 to twenty-eight in 1864. After
the war, the church assisted the black members in organizing a
church of their own. This new church took the name of Bethlehem and
was organized about the year 1867.
The church building is now empty (of course, this isn’t
the original structure), and there is no more congregation. Many
former members of the church are buried not too far from here in
the Bethelem cemetery. The cache is a very small container with
only a log.... BYOP.
