The Beacon Traditional Cache

A brisk walk to the top of a high moorland hill.
"The Beacon" is the high point of Hendra Downs & is the third highest hill on the western half of Bodmin Moor (after Brown Willy & Rough Tor). There is no impressive tor at the top, just a boulder-strewn hillside beyond the summit. The views over East Cornwall & a distant Dartmoor are what make the climb worthwhile. The simplest route to the cache is to exit the A30 at Trewint & follow the lane signposted to "Westmoorgate". Parking at the coordinates given below is very limited. Please don`t obstruct the gates & if the area is full there are plenty of other places just back down the road. Go through the gate onto the open moor, turn left following the dry stone wall all the way up to the summit where you pass through another gate. The open moorland right of the wall & the summit area are all "Right to Roam" access land but the enclosed fields to the left are not. Please keep dogs under close control during the lambing & bird nesting seasons. The cache is a 1 litre box hidden in the boulder field.
