OK, so summer doesn't technically start till the 21st, but it's
close enough! It's an outdoor event, so bring Suncream and a Hat -
and waterproofs just in case!
For a while now, a group of us local cachers have been racking
our brains thinking where we could host an event, and the St Ives
estate was the obvious choice. You can read more on the estate
here
Not only is it a beautiful place to visit, it is also a bit
"cache-rich" - with at least 14 caches within the estate, and a
massive 145 within a 5 mile radius - so after the festivities have
finished, there will be plenty for you to do!
There is a bit of a local joke saying we can't possibly squeeze any
more caches within the estate, but we might just squeeze one more
in for the day of the event!
The event is within the walled picnic area, so bring along
you're own food, a blanket and/or camping chairs as there won't be
enough tables to go around.
Opposite the picnic area is Readers Tearoom, which serves a nice
range of hot meals - but it is only small, so it's best if we don't
all overwhelm them!
There are two vehicle entrances to the estate, and various
places to park (please see the additional waypoints), as well as a
children's play area and toilets.
Please remember to follow the CITO principle, and to help the area
stay nice and tidy!
Rough Timetable of event
- 12:00pm - Gather in the picnic area, eat, chat and swap
trackables.
- 2:00pm - Handful of new caches released, including a Fathers
Day related cache. Printouts will be available (caches will be
published at around the same time). Five caches will be within the
estate, so those who are planning to tackle the nearby caches might
want to wait until 2pm.
Weather permitting, there should be a storytime session at the
wooden toadstools at 2pm (organised by the Friends of St Ives)
- The ending time isn't fixed, it'll be at whatever time everyone
disperses.
