Geocache Description:

Hewitt is home to the only place along the historic Yellowstone Trail, where the Yellowstone name has been preserved since the 1920s. (There is also a small portion of the trail near Addison, where the road was recently renamed Yellowstone Trail, but this part of the road is unique in remaining The Yellowstone since the 1920s.)

Hewitt is not much of a town now, and looks like it never was. In the 1920s it would have been a town that supported the many rural farms in the area. Now, it is primarily a bedroom community for folks who work in Marshfield.

The Yellowstone Trail runs as straight as an arrow here, about 5 miles to the east of Hewitt, and another 4 miles west into Marshfield, and is named "Yellowstone Road" now, rather than "Yellowstone Trail." The road is paved west of town, and is gravel east of town. Along the road you will see flat farm land. To follow the historic route of the Yellowstone Trail, go north from my cache in Auburndale 1 mile until you get to the gravel Yellowstone Road, turn west and Hewitt is 5 miles straight west. After visiting Hewitt, you can travel on the historic route on the Yellowstone Trail to the Round Barn in Marshfield by staying on the Yellowstne Road to Marshfield.

This is a fairly easy multi, with the first waypoint located in sight of one of the "Yellowstone Road" street signs. The first waypoint takes you to a small cemetary in downtown Hewitt, where you will find the interesting stone of Jakob F. Meyer. You will get all the digits you need to find the second waypoint at Mr. Meyer's stone, and the final cache is not located anywhere near the cemetary.

The final cache location is in the Hewitt Marsh, a park that is in the process of being developed, and the location of the cache is now fully developed and worth a visit. The cache is located just off the trail that goes around what they term a "retired settling pond," which to me is a nice way of saying "old sewage dump." Anyway, the sewage is all gone, and now there is a great marsh here, with abundent bird life. The only way you can really tell that it is not a natural marsh is if you notice that the marsh has a perfectly square shape.

To find the cache go to:
