Aqueduct Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Geo Sailors: Today we went to the cache location to verify if the cache was still there. Unfortunately we found out that the cache had disappeared for the second time. As this location is well worth a visit we will try to find a more secure hiding place in the near future.

Geocache Description:

The cache location is not far from a Roman Aqueduct along the Lycian Way, a 500 km long distance walking route running from Fethiye to Antalya. The Aqueduct was built almost 2000 years ago and is a good example of the skills of the Roman water engineers. The water crossed a dry valley with a span of 500 meters by means of a sealed siphonic pipe made of sculpted interlocking stone blocks. Many of these are still in place and can be found close to the cache location when following the white/red marked trail of the Lycian Way. The access to the cache can be reached by car via a reasonably good dead ended road running from a junction at N36 16.294 E29 21.871 along the new main road above Yesilköy (Turkish for Green Village). After finding the cache it is well worth walking over the stone blocks or along the wall supporting them to see the impressive achievement reached so many years ago.

Small note on cache maintenance: The cache will be maintained during our regular visits to Turkey: we visit at least twice a year.
