This cache is located above Crickhowell in the Black Mountains.
The writer, A.G. Bradley in 1911, described the ridges and valleys of the Black Mountains as “... eighty square miles of complete, uncompromising solitude.” This may well have been so in his day, but even though still less visited than other mountain areas in Wales, the ‘Blacks’ have certainly grown in popularity.
The views from the cache location are outstanding.
The cache is a small water tight container. Original contents: Altimeter, TB Lizi Lizard, an unactivated geocoin and other small items.
Please ensure that you are properly equipped before venturing out on to these hills.
If you require a map of the area visit "Mountain Views" first where you should find one amongst other swaps.
As you pass through Crickhowell or even park up in Crick spare a thought for one of the locals, George Everest. You may not recognise his name but the mountain named after him you will.
George Everest was born in the Manor of Gwernvale at Crickhowell in Powys, in 1790. His pioneering mapping work led to a mountain in the Himalayas being declared the highest peak in the world - and it was named after him.
Look out for a road in Crick named after this famous Welshman.
