Watch For Falling Trees Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

sunnyside7: After quickly DNFing an easy cache in these same woods, I came by to check on Falling Trees. I could not find either container at S1 as the host tree had fallen even more since I was here last. I walked on to check the final, and found the cache dry and in place (almost). With plans to replace S1 soon, I put a geocoin in the cache that I had been holding since I took it from GSHQ in Seattle almost two months ago. As I was putting the cache back the tether came undone from the tent stake it was attached to for flood protection. It's hard to get to and I would have to get dirty and sweaty and mosquito bitten to fix it now.
I looked up at the huge fallen log that was still hanging in the tree precariously and pointing right at my head, the cache's namesake. I wondered how much longer might it hang there before crashing down, a year, a month, a day?
This being my oldest active cache, it's as good a time as any to archive it.
Thanks to all who have come to look for it.

This is a two stage multicache. In a forest preserve near Salt Creek, in Brookfield. Also watch for muggles, this is a popular dog walking area.

Stage 1: (at listed coordinates) There's a trail right here, you don't even have to leave it. Just heed the advice, and watch for falling trees. You are looking for a very small tube with the coords to the Final.

Stage 2: (Final) Do I have to tell you again? Watch for falling trees...and I mean it! If the trees have not all fallen yet, and the canopy is playing havoc with your GPSr, don't worry. Just stay on the trail, and pay attention. The clues will point you in the right direction

Camoed pill bottle containing log and pencil.

Memorial Day flag pin for FTF.

Maintenance notes: (most current at top)

Mar 4, 2010 - Didn't see the Stage 1 tiny tag overhead. If you don't find the tube right by the trail, there is another one about 15' to the left of the trail. Final was in place and dry.

May 8, 2009 - More falling trees, including the limb that held Stage 1. I wedged a new Stage 1 where the previous one had been, and moved the limb to the side of the trail. I also lodged another tag in the same fashion as the fallen one, still right in the middle of the trail. If you're not careful it will hit you in the head. In case both of those go missing, I placed a third tag about 15 feet off the trail, in a place where a large limb had broken off. So the S1 clue takes on additional meaning. "gotcha covered" Please replace tags snugly and covertly.

Oct 17, 2008 - I replaced both stages of the cache today, which had been washed away by last months flood. Both stages should withstand the next flood. The cache is in a 3 inch pill container with a 1.25 inch diameter, big enough only for micro coins, pins, rings and such. Stage 1 is in the same locale, but a new hiding spot. There is no container, just a tag with the coords for the final. If you can't locate Stage 1, or the coords have become illegible, you can still find the cache if you handle this as a letterbox. The descriptions and the hints should lead you to the cache. They are more reliable than coords under a dense canopy.

Aug 6, 2008 - I replaced the cache today with a similar sized container and new log sheet. The cache was not in the "new" spot where I rehid it five months ago, and I am leaving it now in its original (almost) spot, and changing the hint back to what it was. At Stage 1 I placed yet another container with final coords inside. That makes three. You only need to find one, but if you see any of them exposed, please re-cover. Please replace both stages as you found them.

Mar 8, 2008 - The original cache was muggled. The final has been moved a few feet away. Use all the clues and hint below and it should be easy.
