Geocache Description:

This traditional cache is located at Baker Creek State Park in McCormick County, in the Old 96 District Tourism Region, and is part of the South Carolina Heritage Corridor. This park closes during the winter season, from December 1st to the first week in March.

The park is located on Strom Thurmond Lake and has two 50 site campgrounds located along the shores of the lake. There is a .75 mile hiking trail, a 1 mile hiking trail and a 10 mile bike trail also available to hikers. The park also includes a boat ramp, plenty of picnic tables, as well as restroom facilities.  A fee is required for entry into the park and although pets are welcomed, they must be kept on a leash.

Once you enter the State Park, you will want to park near the Pavilion where you will find good park information and great views of the lake.  There are also various recreational activities offered, including volleyball courts, basketball goals, horseshoe pit and playground equipment.  North of the Pavilion is a bike trail that is the best route to the cache search area.

This hide is being placed for my good friend and caching buddy MK (blazingbunny) and everything about it is hers, including the box (previously), the log book, the contents and even the title.  She got me started in the sport and this is the hide she would have placed, had she been able.

MK was an active member of the Abbeville Opera House for over twenty-five years in many capacities.  Providing ‘behind-the-scenes’ support for the many plays being performed here, she occasionally would take small roles and I was able to attend one of the last performances she was involved in, titled ‘Dearly Departed’ (the irony of which was not lost on us).  In this comedy she played the role of Delightful, a quiet child who was found eating something in nearly every scene (not easy for MK at that time.)   She had about three one-word lines throughout and in one scene she was asked what it was she was eating.  She paused perfectly, looked down at her meal, adoringly, and replied bluntly, “Beans”; thus the title of this cache.

The cache is an ammo can that contains a log book, a pen and has room for trade items.  The terrain to the cache is an improved bike trail, part of the way, and the tree cover is moderate to heavy in the search area.  Be aware of the possibility for snakes, spiders, wasps, ticks, mosquitoes and other creatures you expect to see in a lakeside wilderness area.  Check carefully for fishing muggles both on and off-shore.  Have fun and enjoy the View!
