The Turdle Splash Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Lizardo: The fact that I am archiving this cache should not be seen as an indication that I have any less admiration for TurdleEggs. I just think it has run its course, and I feel that it might have been targeted by locals. So thanks to all the finders! And to TurdleEggs: Keep being awesome!

How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

You are looking for a "modified" ammo can. Terrain is pretty flat for most of your journey, but there is a steep slope at the access to the area. Watch your step.

I've heard it's good to open with a joke:

Deep within a forest a little turtle began to climb a tree.
After hours of effort he reached the top, jumped into the air waving his front legs and crashed to the ground.
After recovering, he slowly climbed the tree again, jumped, and fell to the ground.
The turtle tried again and again while a couple of birds sitting on a branch watched his sad efforts.
Finally, the female bird turned to her mate.
"Dear," she chirped, "I think it's time to tell him he's adopted."

Ode to TurdleEggs
My first contact with TurdleEggs was an unsolicited e-mail accusing me of wandering in a ditch earlier that day. It seems that I had been caught red-handed by the cache owner as I searched for his East Meets West cache.

That was one month into my caching career. Although I had met two other cachers out on the trail (Polarbeardiggers, and Peter and Gloria), I had never been e-mailed by another cacher. So Tim, you were my first. :)

As it turns out, "unsolicited e-mail" is TurdleEggs middle name. I was fortunate enough to get a few more over the next couple of months. And, I am happy to say, it is rare that a day goes by without a Turdle missive in my inbox. For those who don't know, TurdleEggs has every cache, coin and travelbug in Manitoba on his watchlist. Although we tease him about it, it is because of this that he is able to see some of the more entertaining logs posted to the website and takes the time to post them in the MBGA Forums

He and the Turdle Femme have become very good friends of Tannasaurus and me. We enjoy each others company at geocaching events, and have also enjoyed a few dinner parties and even an art show together. The Little Lizards look forward to visits from the TurdleEggs' and my daughter (Lizard #1) enjoys making Turdle crafts, and drawing derogatory Turdle pictures.

There has been a few lapses in our comraderie. There was the heated battle over Word Domination with Skaven's Conquista Del Mondo Australia. And lets not forget the verbal assualts in the forums. But it was, as with many things geocaching related, all in fun. We marched on the South American Continent as a combined army, and I belive our democratic liaisons we left on site that evening are still there today.

I have been on a few successful caching forays with TurdleEggs. I derive great pleasure from the seemingly endless observations and critiques of my caching prowess while we are on the trail. But I do appreciate his constant banter, to date we have not been attacked by a bear. :)

Cache Information
I hope you enjoy finding this cache. I had a great time hiking out with TurdleEggs to place it. This is a nifty piece of land purchased by the City of Winnipeg a few years ago. There are plans to improve the access to it. At one point, there was money set aside for a pedestrian bridge to this property across the LaSalle River, but much of that money was used for a street party held by a previous mayor.
Please access the site by following the path under the trestle along the riverbank. This is the only proper way into the cache. Until the city upgrades the access, the cache will be disabled in the spring when the water is high. I have provided coordinates to this path. Access from the South is through private property. If you choose to go this way, be sure to ask at one of the houses along the road. They allow paintballers in there, so I figure that a hiker won't bother them too much! The path under the trestle begins at about N49 45.786 W97 09.234. And you can park at N49 45.860 W97 09.242.

This cache was created to add to the number of QUALITY caches hidden in Manitoba. It is an official cache in the MBGA Cache Splash event.
Category 24: Cacher Tribute themed cache. A cache dedicated to your favorite cacher. (Please ask the subject of the cache for permission, first.)
