Northern Harrier

No bushwhacking is required.

This is one of a series of Conejo Birds caches. These caches are named after birds that you will often see when you are hiking on trails in the Conejo Valley area.

Common name: Northern Harrier
Scientific name: Circus cyaneus
Length: 16-24 inches

The Northern Harrier has a distinctive flight pattern; it flies close to the ground, often following the contours of hills and dales as it hunts for its prey of small animals. It is easy to identify by it's white rump.

The other caches in this series are:
GC134EY: Conejo Birds - California Thrasher
GC134ER: Conejo Birds - Red-Tailed Hawk

All of the caches are in the same park and along the same trail system. Expect to hike a little over two miles round trip to find all the caches. Elevation change is minimal (+/- 100'). Each cache is located a short distance from a well-defined road or human/equestrian trail. If you find yourself following game trails or crashing through the brush for more than a couple feet, find another route!
