Geocache Description:

This is one in a series of 5 caches placed around Walshaw Dean Reservoirs.

Some history.
In 1905 a railway had to be constructed to carry goods and equipment to build the dam. Running from Whitehall Nook, Heptonstall, the 3ft-gauge Blakedean railway skirted the brow of the hill past Widdop Gate then crossed the valley on a trestle bridge, ending at the site of the reservoirs over five miles away. Several wooden bridges were constructed to cross small cloughs and valleys but - at 700 feet long and 105 feet high - the towering viaduct at Blakedean was by far the most amazing part of the entire operation. To transfer the trains and railway stock from the valley, teams of horses had to pull the loads up the very steep Hepstonstall Road.

The caches are mainly placed on good firm ground and should be easy to find as they are very close to paths and a tarmac road. To visit them should take around 2 hours.
Two of the caches have the co-ords for the bonus cache, Walshaw Dean Walk.
This is a micro.

Mind the nettles.

Good luck.
