This is a three-stage multi-cache at DeGray Lake Resort State Park. Parking is easy at all three stages. The first stage is a medicine bottle, and the second is a film canister. The last stage is a re-purposed army green medical container and requires a short hike. No need to bushwhack. Avoid the poison ivy and stay on the trail for longer than you think.
This cache is part of a series in the “Cache in with The Natural State” program of the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism. You’ll find unique trade items representing Arkansas tourism attractions in this series of caches. (Special items only stocked weekly for four weeks or as available.) Situated on the north shore of 13,800-acre DeGray Lake, this recreational retreat in the foothills of the Ouachita Mountains offers resort amenities combined with the outdoor adventures of an Arkansas state park. DeGray is a fishing and water sports resort and a golf resort. It’s also perfect for family vacations, getaways, reunions, weddings, business meetings and retreats. Located in southwest Arkansas amidst the natural beauty of Arkansas's southernmost mountain range, DeGray Lake is one of Arkansas's renowned "Diamond Lakes" known for their clear water. This is where you will find Arkansas's best fishing for hybrid striped bass, and great angling for bass, crappie, bream and catfish. You can also enjoy water-skiing, sailing and pleasure boating. And, the lake's clean clear water is ideal for scuba diving and snorkeling. The park's full-service marina offers a wide variety of boat rentals including fishing boats and motors, party barges, fishing barges, personal watercraft, canoes, kayaks and water bikes. DeGray features a PGA championship-rated, public golf course (7,100 yards) with pro shop, driving range and practice range. Along the shoreline and in shaded woodlands are the park's 113 campsites. The 96-room lodge, and its convention center offer sweeping views of DeGray Lake's blue waters and the distant mountains that surround the lake. The area abounds in bird life and wildlife. It is rich in scenic natural beauty, and it is a pristine and peaceful setting where you can experience a wide variety of outdoor adventures. This cache is placed with permission of the Arkansas State Parks system via Permit Number 14-004. At the time of placement of this cache there were three other caches located in the park, so take time to find those too.
