Andy Caldecott was born in Keith, South Australia, on the 10th of August 1964. He started riding motorcyles from a young age and soon became an expert in motorcycle racing.
He won the Australian Safari Rally four times consecutively (2001-2004) and was a competitor in the Dakar Rally in 2004 (DNF), 2005 (6th), and 2006. Tragically, on the 9 January 2006, some 250km into the 599 km special stage from Nouakchott to Kiffa, Andy came off his KTM Dakar bike at around 160 kph. Andy was killed instantly. He was only 42. Prior to his death, Andy had won a stage of the rally.
The Dakar is regarded as the toughest motor sport event in the world. Andy was the 23rd death in the 28 years of the rally.
Even though he pushed himself to the limits Andy was known for his easy going manner and humility. Andy is survived by his wife Tracey and their two children, Caitlin and Mitch.
The cache is located near where Andy is now resting peacefully.
Once you have found the cache, please go and have a look for Andy's grave. Maybe you could place a flower as well.
Andy Caldecott, you are a hero and inspiration to many. May you forever rest in peace.
