Geocache Description:

A new multi so people can explore or re-explore the Indian Mounds.

Welcome to Indian Mound County Park. The coordinates given will take you to the parking lot and the trailhead, as well as the first waypoint to find. Please follow the trail as there is no reason to deviate from it. The second WP and the final are all right next to it. There is no need to approach any mounds or any of the private property posted. The waypoint containers contain the last three numbers of the N and W coordinates that you need to change to move on. The first four numbers stay the same.

Update 7/15/08: many people have been having difficulty locating the second waypoint. So here's a more precise description than what's in the hint. You are looking for the same container as what you find at WP1. Look for a Shagbark Hickory with a partially hollow core at the base. It is in there. You'll still need the coords from WP1 to get you to the correct general area.

If you found the previous cache in this park (The Mounds - GCEE3F), you may notice some changes. It looks like they are improving this area by thinning the trees and removing invasives. When we placed this cache, there was a big pile of woodchips in the parking lot - looks like they are planning on improving the trail as well.

FTF prize is an unactivated FTF geocoin!

History: "In what has been described as 'a sacred place', the rare effigy mounds in this park have been left relatively undisturbed since white occupation in 1836; not plowed, not put to crops or built upon. Surely a miracle!" These mounds were created sometime between 650 and 1200 CE. The park includes several birds, turtles, and conical shapes, plus a pear and a tadpole. There is also a remnant of a pre-historic Indian Trail here. Enjoy your stroll through history.
