Geocache Description:

Pushmataha was the chief of the Native American tribe of the Choctaws. He was known as the “Indian General” and is regarded by historians as the greatest of the Choctaw chiefs. He is known as a great warrior, leader, and shrewd businessman when it came dealing with “white” men and making treaties with them. He served with distinction on the side of the United States in the War of 1812. Through the course of his life he had dealings with Presidents Jefferson, Jackson, and Monroe. Upon his death, as requested, he was buried will full military honors as a Brigadier General of the U. S. Army, in the Congressional Cemetery in Washington, D. C., the only Native American chief ever interred there. There are towns, counties, and Boy Scout Councils named for him from Alabama to Oklahoma, all territories with which he had dealings during his lifetime.

This cache is placed in honor of the great chief Pushmataha. It is located very near the sign which bears the name of the town in Choctaw County, Alabama. Look in the middle of a clump of small trees along the side of a dirt road. Pull off the highway and park in the Shade to claim the cache.
