Death Corner Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

RodentNoir: This cache has been running for 13yrs and has very little traffic these days. Also, the tree stump the cache is hidden in has rotted to the point that it's not practical to keep the cache in this location. Taking all this into consideration I think, sadly, it's time to 'archive' this one.

Geocache Description:

Simple cache in the Glynn Valley. Requires a short walk in woodland on tracks, or on steep rough ground, depending on the route you choose!

The cache is a 1ltr plastic container.

Please make sure you replace it high enough and secure enough that it will not be affected by heavy rain or flooding. Also be aware that if it has been raining it may be very muddy around the cache site. That gives you a good clue where it is!

There are two recommended parking spots:
N50 27.418 W4 38.593 to the south
N50 27.886 W4 39.247 to the west
Parking is limited, but there is more at the western location.
Wherever you park, please ensure you do not block the access!

This is forestry land which is sometimes subject to restricted access. Please observe and respect any signs or directions from forestry staff.

There are a number of possible routes to the cache, from either parking spot. Depending on the exact route you choose, it can be buggy friendly from either direction (but you will encounter stiles).

If you approach from the west, the most direct route (as the crow 'flies' - or rather 'dives'!) might be described as 'demanding'. Expect to have to scramble down some steep bits; be ready to use your hands and to get the seat of your pants dirty! To follow the 'civilised' route from the western parking spot you must initially follow the track to the north, before looping around to the right and heading down into the valley. The 'civilised' route is buggy friendly.

A few have queried the origin of the name. In short - I don't know! 'Death Corner' is the name of the corner where the cache is located. The name appears on OS mapping of 1:25k or larger scale. The name caught my eye and drew me to the wood. And no, that does not mean I'm a crazed axe murderer!
