Pretty Falls and great gorge to explore.

COG3 Series: A tour of Central Ontario Welcome Central Ontario.This series of caches will show some of the attractions, tourist information offices , the history and some of the features that make our area interesting and unique. We hope you enjoy your time in our area. COG would like to thank the owner of this cache for helping us with this series. The village of Eugenia was named for Empress Eugenie, consort of Napoleon III. Area established around 1850. The Falls were discovered in the Fall of 1852 by a settler Mr. Brownlee while out hunting. Brownlee and associates later descended the 30 meters into the gorge and thought they had struck gold! After a 3 week frenzied mining they were devastated to find their gleaming “gold” was worthless Pyrite or “Fools Gold”. Bring insect repellent as the biting bugs are out late Spring and early Summer.
