Geocache Description:

Visit some of the Cloud Climbing Railroad's history in LaBrocita Canyon.

Even without the rails, the railbed of Alamogordo/Sacramento Mountain Railway (1898-1947) is an impressive sight. Last December, moonstar mentioned how some of the trestles along the railbed would make excellent cache sites. We decided to get to it, so this begins our project.

This cache can be reached by an easy round-trip hike of 1.8 miles from likely parking. The trail follows the railbed and is some of the most level hiking you will find in these parts. Little 4 year old Sarah rode on Jeep Dog's shoulders to the cache and back, so it can be kid friendly - just watch for the steep drop-off into the arroyo.

An added bonus to the hike is you will learn of some great water hole spots below (provided there's actually running water, of course) and some great views across the arroyo.

This one is an ammo can, with plenty of room for trade. We loaded it up with some awesome geocacher signature items Jeep_Dog has collected in his travels.

We loved the hike and exploring around the trestle, and hope you will, too. Terrain rating assigned for distance considerations.
