Anchorage has a wonderful tradition of allowing residents to establish memorials within park boundaries. These memorials can be as simple as a bench or as elaborate as rock gardens and giant iron sculpture.
Just in time for Memorial Day 2007! This is the third cache in the Coastal Trail Memorial Series. This memorial is dedicated to Thomas P. Cox, the founder of ALPAR: Alaskans for Litter Prevention and Recycling. The memorial is a grass island with benches, wonderful art, and landscaping located at the confluence of the Chester Creek bike trail and the Coastal Trail. It's also a mere 40 feet away from the Iron Worker's Memorial.

Here's a quote from the old plaque honoring Mr. Cox:
Tom's tireless commitment to achieving his dream of a litter-free Alaska resulted in the founding of ALPAR and the creation of ALPAR's enduring mission: to eliminate litter and make convenient, economically-feasible recycling available to Alaskans.
Tom was a dynamic force in pursuing this mission. We know he'd be delighted with these public benches, created from recycled plastic and metal. He'd also enjoy this bike rack created especially for kids. Kids were always an inspiration to him, and he considered it vitally important to educate them about recycling and eliminating litter. As a result, he created ALPAR's Youth Litter Patrol Program and the Can-Do Kids recycling program.
It's clear that Tom Cox was very devoted to his community and to his cause.
Now for the cache itself. Again, this is another offset cache. The cache is a little over a tenth of a mile from the memorial.
and the coordinates must be derived. The algorithm is:
N 61 12.3BB W 149 55.4CC
Where BB = 71 + The last two digits of Mr. Cox's birth year: 19XX. BB = 71 + XX
Where CC = The last two digits of the year (19YY) that ALPAR was founded, minus 31. CC = YY - 31.
Please place the cache back exactly as you found. It's tough to keep it hidden because of the successful grass eradication program.
Congratulations to Malcore for the FTF!
