Willow Leaf Fig - Ficus neriifolia regularis (salicifolia)
________________________________________

General Information: Ficus salicifolia, also known as ficus neriifolia regularis, willow leaf fig, and narrow leaf fig, amongst others, is an evergreen tropical species of fig. Its light to dark gray trunk thickens well and aerial roots develop from the trunk and branches in humid shady environments. The leaves are alternate, dark green, simple, lanceolate, one to three inches long and only a half inch to three quarters of an inch wide.

One of the characteristics of willow leaf fig trees is that they are able to procreate by sending out roots from the trunk and branches of the main tree. This characteristic results in the spreading of the original tree if the root penetrates fertile ground. If the root meets with a less desirable growth medium, it matures and becomes an additional trunk or branch that appears to be growing in the wrong direction.

The cache is a small screw top container that has been placed in one such interesting tree.

The property owners are aware of the presence of the cache. We have been informed that they are no longer open on Sundays so access is only available Monday to Saturday. We have also recently found out that they close at 14h00 on Saturdays.

FTF honours go to cache-fan. Congratulations!
