DUCK Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dalesman: This cache has been in need of care and maintenance for some time and as the owner has not responded to my note I am archiving it.

Guidelines:**You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing.**

If you wish to contact me about this cache please use my Email address below my signature and quote the GC number of the cache. Please note this system is not infallible and I may miss any such mail.

Many thanks,

Geocache Description:

A two-stage cache taking you near river, canal and railways on an old, little known public footpath.

If you like rivers, canal narrow boats, railways and railwayana, then this cache trail is for you.

This walk takes you along a seldom used, and little known footpath to a railway footbridge that dates back to the early days of steam rail travel. Pause a while here and you are bound to spot a few trains.

I saw the '60 052 Glofa Twr, Tower Colliery - The last deep mine in Wales', hauling a train of ballast waggons. Tower Colliery is situated in the south Wales valleys, and was earmarked for closure in 1994 by British Coal. Tower represented the last deep coal mine in an area made famous by its mining tradition.

You also experience walking under two converging rail tracks which have recently been renovated and there is a fine example of stone built railway workers houses to be seen.

To start the walk, Park your car just over Ha'penny Bridge, Battyeford, Mirfield at the parking location coordinates indicated below.

Walk away from Ha'penny Bridge and the River Calder and go over the canal bridge where you will see many canal narrowboats at this lovely marina. Using your GPSr, turn right along Riverside Way to go along the canal towpath to find the feeder cache at the given coordinates.

Here you will find the coordinates for the Final Cache. Please remember to replace the coordinate guide and hide the cache containers well.

YOU MAY WISH TO TAKE A TORCH.

OH, AND MIND YOUR HEAD.
