A small cache located in Nicholas County Veterans Memorial Park
along U.S. Route 19, just north of Summersville, West Virginia.
The entrance to the park is well signed from both directions on
U.S. 19. If traveling north, this will be a right-hand turn; if
going south, turn left. After turning onto the entrance road, you
will make another immediate right-hand turn onto another road that
parallels Route 19. This road leads to the swimming pool, animal
shelter, and a restored one-room school house - which is your
destination. There are free guided tours of the school from 2:00 to
4:00PM every Saturday, so searching for the cache during those two
hours is not recommended.
Cache is in a 1.5 cup plastic storage container. Initial contents
are: 2 polished glass "gems", 2 erasers, Nicholas County Junior
Deputy Sheriff badge, Beanie Baby pin, West Virginia pin, snap lock
key chain, 4 DHC cosmetic samples, NAFC zipper pull, Buffalo Nickel
in holder, small carabiner clip, 1923 France 1 Franc coin, 1937
Great Britain Penny, key ring calculator, and a log book with pen.
There is also a nice 1942 silver Mercury Dime for the First To
Find.
While in the area, please take the time to explore the many
features of this great community park. There is a golf course,
tennis courts, softball fields, playground, the Nicholas County
High School football stadium, several buildings that can be
reserved for special occasions, and many fun planned activities
(including the county fair in July) throughout the year.
If there are no special events scheduled, the park is usually
closed after dark, so please do not attempt to find this cache at
night!
**UPDATE - 8/21/2010: There have been several instances of this
cache not being returned to its proper hiding place, or being left
out in the open for all to see, by some finders. If this continues,
the cache is surely going to be muggled. If you are unsure where to
replace the container, please refer to the detailed hint
below.
**UPDATE - 7/30/2011: Once again, the cache has gone missing, most
likely because it was not properly rehidden. Another replacement
was put out today. To retrieve and rehide the cache you must get
down on your knees and reach under and around behind. There is some
large gravel at ground zero, so you might want to bring something
soft to kneel on. Please help rehide this cache so it will still be
there for the next finder!!
