Geocache Description:

This cache is slightly off the bike trail behind Iowa Public Television. As you head to the cache, you will pass the many satellite dishes used by IPTV to receive some of the programming they broadcast. For those that don’t know, IPTV is the only television station in Iowa with coverage in all 99 counties. They have 9 Digital transmitters and 8 Digital translators.

Iowa Public Television began in 1969 as the Iowa Education Broadcasting Network. In 1976 the name was changed to Iowa Public Broadcasting Network. Finally in 1982 the name was changed to Iowa Public Television.

There have been many firsts at IPTV, but the one I remember the most (because I was involved in it) is that Iowa Public Television was the first television network in the state to broadcast a live local HD broadcast, with coverage of the Iowa State Fair Parade.
