There are 3 Y's in Deming that I know of. All you have to do is find the right one. Please put it back the way you find it. This is a small cache. Lets trade!
The cache is near the intersection of Luca Rd and Hermanas Grade. Hermanas Grade used to be a railroad bed that attached The EP&SW's South Line between Douglas, AZ and El Paso, TX ran through Hermanas, where the line branched off and ran for 31 miles northeast to Deming, where it gained access to the Southern Pacific's "North Line".
This branch line was built by the El Paso & South Western in 1901 to connect Hermanas (now a ghost town) to Deming, NM. Today, the entire route is a road named "Hermanas Grade". The line was officially abandoned 7/21/28 but it is not known when the track was removed.
Only a portion of the Hermanas Grade is paved on the north end; the rest from Hermanas north is dirt with some gravel.Portions of Hermanas still exist even though it is a ghost town.
