A series of caches on the Llangattock escarpment located near
some of the major cave system entrances.
At over 37.5km, Agen Allwedd is the most famous and the longest
cave system on the Llangattwg escarpment. There are many
interesting features that make this cave a very worthwhile one to
visit, including three round trips. It is home to several species
of bat, all of which are protected.
Agen Allwedd is named after its key shaped entrance. In the
vicinity is the gated Ogof Gam which connects with Agen Allwedd
after a short distance. Ogof Gam is the 'cavers' entrance to the
system as the original Agen Allwedd entrance is reserved for
bats.
Cavers are continually exploring the system in an attempt to
connect it to Ogof Daren y Cilau and to its resurgence, Pwll y Cwm,
some 4km to the south in the Clydach Gorge.
The container has a log sheet but no pencil.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Cache within your abilities.
2. Caves – Caving is not a dangerous sport if carried out by
trained and responsible cavers following recognised safety
procedures. However, to the uninitiated caves can be dangerous
places. You are strongly advised not to enter the caves without the
proper instruction in the techniques and equipment necessary.
