Geocache Description:

This Cache is an ammo can located near the spillway of the Mill Run Reservoir. There is and ATV trail just north of the parking coordinates that will take you to the cache area. I gave it a difficulty rating of 3 due to the thick tree cover that may interfere GPS signal in the summer months.

The land for the Mill Run Reservoir was bought from August Stickel and it was built about 1904 by the Pennsylvania Railroad to supply their steam engines with water. The Mountain Water Supply Company, a subsidiary of the Pennsylvania Railroad, operated the reservoir. It was abandoned when diesel engines came into use and sold to the American Water Works, who in turn sold it to the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County. The suggested parking spot is located at: N39 58.721 W79 27.137 The trailhead is a little north of the parking area across Rt. 381 N39 58.758 W79 27.140 This is an ATV trail, and may become muddy after a good bit of rain. If you have never been to this area before, bring a camera and a picnic lunch and make a day of it. Our daughter likes to swim here, so you might want to try it out. We hope you enjoy your time here!
