Elephant rock is a rocky outcrop that rises around 300ft above Lyny Gwynant.
Llyn Gwynant is a stunning lake in the heart of Snowdonia in one of the most beautiful valleys in Wales. It lies on the River Glaslyn, in the Nant Gwynant valley. The lake is naturally occurring, having been formed by glacial action around 10,000 years ago.
Elephant rock has assumed its name on account of when viewed from the shores on the opposite side of the lake at certain angles the rock formation takes on the appearance of an elephant.
You can take many routes to the cache but my advice is to take the time to complete a full circular walk around the lake, about four miles in total. Its not a particularly difficult terrain and is a very enjoyable walk allowing you to not only visit the cache but also to view elephant rock at the required angle to see the elephant.
Please take care when approaching the cache. Its at the end of a rocky pathway that forms the elephants spine, id imagine it could get pretty slippery when wet.
So do please be careful.
The cache is a micro bored into a piece of red Cheshire sandstone, if you pick it up make sure you look underneath!
You must take your own pen to sign the log.
