Madeline Kahn’s character, Lily Von Schtoop, in Blazing Saddles utters the title line which seemed perfect for the name of this cache. The motto on Fox Mulder’s office wall in the
X-Files was also apropos...so, they were combined!
This cache contains photographic evidence which
SOLVES one of the greatest mysteries of the universe!
(Please leave the picture in the cache so others
may share its insight, wisdom and knowledge as well!).
The cache is a cammo-taped, cylindrical (about 3”x12”) container. The lid snaps tightly and has a retaining strap added...please make sure each are sealed well. The container holds the log book, pencils & sharpener, smaller trade items and a WG$ for the FTF! (Cache will accommodate geocoins!) The cache is located in typical Highlands manner and in a way that does not allow it to come out freely. You will have to move something to make this happen. Instead of muscle, apply the laws of physics. What has to be moved sits on a fulcrum, more or less. Applying pressure to the upper part, or a lever to the bottom (for cachers “Ahnold” would refer to as ’ghirlie men’!), will make retrieval easy...but, as always,
be safe and don't stick hands into places creatures might live or lurk,
without first checking carefully!
Pump House trail is approximately 2.3 miles long. The shortest route means parking in the main parking lot near the beach (from Memorial Day to Labor Day there is an entry fee for park usage). Parking is also adjacent to the rear gate before 10 am and after 5 pm during the summer season, or, all of the time out of season...warning: parking regulations are enforced and, yes, the Park Police CAN & DO issue tickets for violations.
The rangers I have met have been very receptive to geocaching/geocachers;
please avoid anything that might change their opinion!
If you opt for the longer way, there are no fees and add a half to full star for terrain for some areas of the trail you will cover. This access may not be available in Winter when snow is on the ground; local plows push snow into the access road.
There are quite a few caches in the park, so consider making a day expedition out of your visit to hunt for smilies.
Wawayanda State Park is home to numerous varieties of wildlife. Black bear, coyote, bobcat, beaver and snakes - both venomous and non-venomous - live here. Having an encounter is certainly a possibility. Please make yourself aware of what to do should you have an encounter...so you may enjoy the experience and not fear it. Take the proper precautions!
***TICKS CAPABLE OF CARRYING LYME DISEASE CAN BE PRESENT YEAR-ROUND!***
Please check yourself and others frequently; use of repellent is suggested.,br.
Wawayanda State Park allows hunting in season.During hunting season, please be sure to play it safe and wear fluorescent hunter orange attire when caching.To be completely safe, cache on Sundays when NJ does not allow any hunting.
Enjoy...and sleep better knowing one of life’s greatest mysteries has been solved!
