Vorticity, Cirrus142, and I were on the way to Scree Mountain
and ended up on the wrong trail, losing a little over an hour. What
to do? Hide a cache, of course! We found a great place called
Nelson Camp. Oddly, Nelson Camp is on trail 668 and not on Nelson's
Trail (672).
The cache is approximately an 8-mile round trip from parking at
the lot at the intersection of High Drive and Gold Camp. There are
good trails all the way...just don't end up on the wrong trail like
we did!
Take Gold Camp Rd. uphill from parking to the Seven Bridges
Trail (622). From 622, turn left onto 668 to follow Cheyenne Creek
as 622 turns north towards Jones Park.
None of the trails have signs. If they did, this cache
wouldn't even exist! Bring a map; the Pikes Peak Atlas accurately
depicts all the trails in the area. Update 11/28/08:
trails do now have signs! I'd still recommend bringing a map,
though.
