This is the ninth of a series of caches located in the Riverland designed to highlight some of the places that are worth a visit and our recollections of time spent there.
When Mum and Dad decided that we were moving up to Renmark way back in 1974, this was one spot that we visited on our first day on the search for a place to live. At the time of placing the cache, the old lookout tower had not changed much since that day apart from aging over 33 years. The structure itself was really shabby with gaps between the steps and rails that would not even come close to passing building regulations today. Since that time, the tower has been given a new lease on life with a swish new overhaul. The cache magnetic container.
The view from the top that is the highlight of this location. You can see a good portion of the fruit blocks of Renmark West and Renmark North from the platform and then right across the river to Headings Cliffs and quite a bit more besides. The blocks have changed from a heavier reliance on stone fruit and citrus to a lot more of the grape, but almonds, avocados and other fruits are now part of the landscape too. Come any time but a balmy afternoon is my recommendation.
