Geocache Description:

A short distance from Honington and Barkston, the cache is located on Frinkley Lane which, at this point, forms part of a long distance walk the ‘Viking Way’. The cache is just over 1/2 mile from the suggested parking point.

The Viking Way is a 147 mile long distance footpath (227km / 141 miles) starting at the Humber Bridge south bank viewing area (TA028227) from where it heads westwards along the Humber bank. It continues up onto the chalk ridge of the Lincolnshire Wolds from where there are dramatic views of the River Humber. From Lincolnshire the path goes through the Vale of Belvoir, finishing at Oakham in Rutland (SK861088).
The name of the route reflects the influence of Danelaw in the eastern counties of Britain and throughout its length the Viking Way logo of a Viking helmet appears on waymark signs.
The Viking Way cache can be approached from a number of directions (from Honington, Barkston or Marston) depending on the distance you wish to walk/cycle. At ‘The Viking Way’ cache there are fantastic views: you can see the churches of Honington, Belton, Syston and Grantham as well as the Bellmount Tower within the grounds of Belton House (National Trust). The cache container is a small tupperware type container. Listen for the numerous skylarks that inhabit this rolling countryside.
The cache was replaced, having been muggled, on 31st May 2009. It is located a few feet from the original location at 5258.893N 00037.816W
