This could be a quick Grab n’ Go from the highway and it features yet another part of the Rivanna Trail. The Cache is a large Tupperware container.
This section of the Rivanna Trail doesn’t seem to get as much use as other areas so we hope you’ll check it out!
While you are there, take a few minutes and check out the great neighborhood of Belmont. The neighborhood is named after the 539 acre farm of John Winn, called “Bell-Mont.” Mr. Winn passed away and left the farm to the highest bidder. The home has been owned by several families since then. The Belmont Mansion, now a private residence, is located at 759 Belmont Avenue, one of the neighborhood’s highest points. The roof is visible from downtown Charlottesville.
Belmont is also one of the first subdivisions in the country. It was laid out according to the 1891 Subdivision Plan. The streets were laid out by surveyors prior to the parcels of land being sold giving the neighborhood a grid form. Some of the homes in the neighborhood, especially around the Belmont Mansion, were built in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. It is an eclectic neighborhood with many different residents and homes. Leave your car at the parking coordinates (N 38 00.900’ W 78 28.700’) and then follow signs for the Rivanna Trail.
