Geocache Description:

A short hike mostly on overgrown roads off Rt 86 near Lake Placid, NY.

Cache is a .30 cal.ammo box. Park off Rt 86 at the junction of the Connery Pond Rd. Do not follow the road into Connery Pond, but take an old overgrown dirt road to Little Cherry Patch. The cache is actually at little Cherry Patch, not the original Cherry Patch. To get to the cache you cross an old dam used to flood Cherry Patch when this area was logged. The dam was released to let the logs go into the Ausable River.

There is a shooting range in a small local sandpit nearby so please Be Careful and stay near the trail.

Decade update: It's been nearly 10 years since I placed this cache (gee, I was 12 then). The "road" to take is much less obvious now. There is probably space for only a couple of cars at the end of the road now that they have filled in a large section of what used to be a parking area. Note: I use the term "end of the road" to describe the junction of 86 and the Connery Pond road. The overgrown trail that you should take to get to the cache is now behind the filled in section of that parking area. Here's a picture:
