Geocache Description:

THE: TrailHeads Extrodinaire -- a simple series of caches at trailheads along the Mountain Loop Highway. It is an effort to encourage you to get on the trails and our way of giving back to the caching community. Each cache page will give you a pretty good idea what to expect on the trail should you decide to venture beyond the trailhead. Make sure to check out the User's Web Page link above for useful information.

Mt. Dickerman Trail #710
Length: 4.3 miles
Season of Use: Summer/Fall
Visitor Use: Medium
Level of Difficulty: Most Difficult
Beginning Elevation: 2000 feet
Ending Elevation: 5723 feet
Map: Green Trails Sloan Peak #111

Getting there:
From the Verlot Public Service Center (11 miles east of Granite Falls), travel east on the Mountain Loop Highway 16.6 miles. The trailhead is on the left (north) side of the highway.

The hike:
This trail switchbacks steeply for 3.0 miles through a dark forest of timber to an alpine meadow that was replanted in 1915 after a major forest fire. Then the trail rises above timberline to an alpine meadow that is alive with masses of wildflowers in July and August.

The trail is generally in good condition and views may be had in all directions as the trail climbs to the 5723 foot summit. The views to the south of Big Four Mountain and Del Campo Peak are especially good. The meadows and summit remain snow-covered until midsummer. No water can be found on this hike.

A Northwest Forest Pass is required for each vehicle parked at the trailhead.

The cache:
Sandwich sized lock n lock, in the base of a stump that is mostly hidden from view. Please don't trample the new trees that have been planted.
