From the eastern side Khatabundah Mountain
does not look nearly as steep as it is 'on the
ground'.
Khatabundah is just a short distance north of Wingham in the
beautiful Manning Valley. All the northern routes are through
private property, so you will need to come up the 'Crown
Road'/easement from the south.
Turn off the Comboyne Road south of the Machins' sawmill and
follow the dirt Khatabundah Road 1km. Turn right / north, then
drive as far as your car/vehicle will allow. Suggest to park
somewhere near a private, smaller saw mill at S31° 50.599' E152
21.631' unless you have a 4wd with good clearance and traction,
like we had. If you walked from the closer sawmill you could make
the terrain 3½.
If it has rained, the
hill will be very slippery and it is much better to walk
further, than to slide off the track. There are multiple
forces pulling you away from where you want to go. (Please
don't blame me if your vehicle, or yourself ends up sliding
downhill).

car)
Enjoy the views as you get up to an alternate,
but just as difficult track, coming in from the west. Sometimes the
locals camp out near here at S31° 49.989' E152° 21.258'. Just a bit
more of a climb and you'll get there. There is a hangliders
take-off strip that is very close to the trig station.
Hopefully you will have a beautiful day, or night. Why not get fit,
and take the walk up.
