Geocache Description:

Don your hiking-boots and have a few rands available for the tea garden afterwards.

First of all – There is an existing footpath network AND we NEED to stay on these roads, or we will soon lose the cache.

To avoid having “treasure-hunters” thrashing the bush, or make other traffickers suspicious, I have given you the coordinates to a point on the footpath, I will direct you from there so you can quickly divert a meter or two and retrieve the cache – you can proceed with the footpath northwards and a few meters further you will encounter a “look-out” point where you can examine the contents and log your visit, thus not making anybody suspicious about the location – on your way back you can dive in and replace the cache. – This way we are just anybody else walking the trails and don’t arose suspicions. The key here is to only negotiate a legal path (cement or well used dirt path that is not closed with branches) – it should be a fairly easy hunt, but a track-log can be e-mailed on request.

If you turn unto a smaller trail and this seems to die on you, rather retreat and try the next turn in the direction you need, I have only used well-travelled footpaths.

Directions – when you reach the coordinate-point you should see a rock-wall if you are facing north, Before stepping unto the wall, Just west of you is two small boulders lying ontop of each other on the ground at the foot of the wall. You must approach the rock just futher west of these builders, just past the–still-standing-but-dead cactus and under other foilage a FAINT trail leads you past the cactus and you duck underneath a branch. (all within less than 4 meters from the footpath just before stepping unto the wall). Just west of the second “boulder” you’ll see the black-yellow 2litre ice cream cache. (if you have a day-pack you can leave it on the wall where you are going to cross it- while hitting the spot)

It is recommended not to go it alone, to keep an eye on your pack, people standing from the opposite hill-beacon would have visual contact with the cache-area.

Here is useful info:

Rockwall (where footpath crosses wall) :-25 46.195 28 17.877

Cache – as near as I could get reception :-25 46.195 28 17.876

Lookout above you :-25 46.201 28 17.852

Head of trial (Gate) :-25 46.438 28 17.491

Bridge :-25 46.417 28 17.499

I haven’t yet tested the altimeter, but the cache is roughly 100 – 110 m higher than the gate.

If you are not fortunate on your first attempt, I’ll e-mail you the trail-log that I have used. Enjoy the short walk, the lower areas of the park seems to have burnt recently.
