After we reached 500 caches last year, we were sitting at the supper table and discussing our next goal. We each had different ideas and suggestions, but QGirl had one very specific goal and that was to find 100 golf balls. Well, she has achieved her goal and this cache is to mark her momentous achievement.
We all have our reasons why we enjoy this sport so much. QGirl just loves to trade. (I don't know how many times I've had to explain Geocaching to the cashiers at 'I Party' when we go to refill our supplies of keychains, ninjas, koosh creatures etc.) QGirl even has a small chest of plastic drawers where she has categorized and stored her Geocaching treasures. But at one time when there really wasn't anything 'good' in a cache she traded for a golf ball. Well that started it all. Before we knew it, she was keeping track of how many she had collected. She has new ones, old ones, colored ones, dirty ones, ones that have been hit by lawn mowers, even some used as sig items. She has even come across ones with her name written on them (what a wonderful surprise that was!) and some very pretty ones for Christmas (thank you Scuba and Froggie!)
About the cache: It is a 2 stage multi in Babcock Nature Preserve. First stage is about the size of a film canister, the final is a .50 cal ammo can. It’s a pretty easy walk along a gravel road. We still have some exploring to do in the area, but we did make it up to the pond. Check it out while you are there. Reception is a bit spotty, but there are clearings somewhat close to the stages, so be patient. (Yea right!)
And finally, you may ask Why is the ‘golf ball’ cache here and not next to a golf course? Well, we don’t golf, never have. She has found all these golf balls caching, and this is just another cache with a nice place to go for a walk! And one more thing, there are no golf balls in the cache to start, just some very nice trade items. If you so desire, you may leave a golf ball, but don’t expect it to stay there very long!!
NOTE: None of QGirl’s golf balls were harmed in the making of this cache, she wouldn’t let me have any so I had to buy my own!
What is her new goal? "To find 200 golf balls of course!" Spoken like a true cacher!
