Tämä kätkö sijaitsee ulkoilureitillä lähellä Aavarannan uimarantaa. -- This cache is located in the park area, near to the swimming beach of Aavaranta.
Kätkölle pääsee lumettomana aikana polkupyörällä ja lastenvaunujen kanssa. Auton voi jättää uimarannan parkkialueelle, jonka koordinaatit ovat: N 62º 36.784’, E 029º41.710’ Aavarannan ulkoilualueen poukamat ja kiemurteleva rantaviiva ovat ihmiskäsien ja luonnonvoimien yhteistyötä. Uuden viljelymaan käyttöönottoon tähdäten vuonna 1854 aloitettiin mittava kanavanrakennustyö Pyhäselän ja Höytiäisen välille. Urakka oli haasteellinen, sillä Höytiäisen pinta oli 10 m Pyhäselän pintaa korkeammalla ja valtavien vesimassojen hallinta vaati tukevien patorakennelmien pystyttämistä. Elokuun 1859 alussa vesimassojen voima kuitenkin lopulta sorti padot ja vesi virtasi Höytiäisestä voimakkaimmillaan 5 000 kuution sekuntivauhdilla. Virtaus pauhasi kaksi viikkoa kuljettaen mukanaan maa-ainesta ja rannan kasvillisuutta, kunnes Höytiäisen pinta oli laskenut 7,5 m ja Paskonlahden pohjasta esiin tullut kalliokynnys hidastutti veden virtausta. Aavarannan ulkoilualueen hiekkainen maaperä on Höytiäisen vesimassojen mukanaan tuomaa. Hiekkainen muodostelma on tiivis, onpa aluetta käytetty lentokenttänäkin. Vuonna 1941 nykyisen rantaviivan kohdalla ollut hietikko toimi lentolaivue 26:n Fiat- ja lentolaivue 28:n Morane-hävittäjien kiitoratana. Nykyinen rantaviiva, pienet tekosaaret ja poukamat ovat tulosta 1980-luvun puistosuunnittelusta. -- During the summertime, the cache can be reached by walking or by bicycle. Cars can be left in the parking area of the swimming beach of Aavaranta, coordinates: N 62º 36.784’, E 029º41.710’ The small bays of Aavaranta have been formed by co-operation of nature forces and human hand. With a purpose of increasing the area of agricultural land by subsiding the water-level of Lake Höytiäinen, construction of a large canal between the Lake Höytiäinen and the Lake Pyhäselkä was started in 1854. Water flow was controlled with firmly built dams, but in the August 1859 water masses finally broke free. Within two weeks water level in Lake Höytiäinen had decreased 7,5 meters, peak flow rate having exceeded 5 000 cubic meters of water per second. The current had moved huge land masses and created a semi-artificial delta in Lake Pyhäselkä at the canal mouth. Aavaranta park and beach area is formed from the sandy soil which canal current brought in 1859. As the sand is firmly packed, the beach area served as an airbase and runway for 26th and 28th Fighter Squadrons of Finnish Air Force during the Second World War in 1941. Today’s beach line, small islets and bays, is the result of environmental construction of 1980’s.
