PLEASE DONT FIND YOURSELVES LOST ON THE HEIGHTS OF THE CHEVIOTS. It's pretty unforgiving up there.

Dear Geocachers,fantastic that all y'all found it through snow to sun! Many thanks to those that maintained the cache - it's not one to be maintained week to week!! PS the cache is a simple film case and paper - there's no accounting for what goes on on that summit in the dark, snow, fog or freezing cloud!

The Cheviot is the highest summit in the Cheviot Hills. Other than the route via the Pennine Way, most routes up The Cheviot start from the Harthope Burn side to the northeast. Parking is available alongside Harthope Burn; although the road continues further west there aren't any parking areas. The Pennine Way itself does a 4 km out-and-back detour to the Cheviot, many walkers who come this way omit it, due to the stage (the last stage) being 29 miles long. The summit of The Cheviot is very flat, covered with an extensive peat bog up to 2 m deep; the Northumberland National Park authority have laid down stone slabs on the main access footpath to prevent erosion damage to the peat and to make access to the summit safer for walkers. This is a no frills cache. A simple container, log list and pencil.

Please ensure you are equipped with the skills and equipment for the terrain/weather. THIS IS A 4 to 4.5 TERRAIN CACHE IN THE WINTER!
