Playing Detectives: Biggleswade Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Hi-5ers: Visited cache after DNF and, yes, the cache is missing.

Rather than replace a muggled cache that nobody has tried to find since July 2017 (19 months), we're archiving it, freeing up the location and idea for a new cache.

Geocache Description:

The fourth hidden by the Hi-5ers in a series of "Playing Detectives" caches. These are designed so that geocachers need to undertake detective work before getting the final cache co-ordinates. For geocachers with children, they also incorporate a playground on the route and do not involve very long treks or the need to get back in the car.

For "Playing Detectives: Biggleswade", the detective work will yield figures that give the co-ordinates of the final cache.

The Biggleswade History Society have placed roundels in certain locations around Biggleswade to commemorate aspects of Biggleswade's past. An example of such a roundel can be seen in this cache's gallery (for the Ivel Mill: sadly this one is illegible). The headline co-ordinates for this cache are near this Ivel Mill roundel. Parking is also available here and at various other places around the town centre.

The detective part of this cache comes about because we are not going to tell you where the roundels are: you have to find them for yourselves. However, they are all in the centre of Biggleswade, and indeed you do not need to be able to find all the roundels mentioned below as the required digits can be found on more than one roundel.

The roundels and the relevant information they contain are as follows.
  • Former Regal Cinema: opened 27th July 19D6 and seated E44 people. NB: roundel missing - it was on the side of what is now Flutters Bingo and would have given D=3 and E=7.
  • Market House: reconstructed 19DE.
  • Maythorn Coachworks: closed 19F1 and substantially demolished 199B.
  • Swan Hotel: burned down in The Great Fire of Biggleswade in 17C5 and was demolished in 197F.
  • The Shambles: burnt down in 1A96.
  • Town Hall: built at a cost of £A00. The Drum Clock was moved in 189C.
  • The White Hart: the railway arrived in Biggleswade in 185B.

The cache itself can be found at N52 05.(A-7)B(C-6) W000 16.D(E+1)(F+2).
