My first cache was placed on one of the best trails in Tolland State Forest. It is accessible by hiking, biking, or snowmobiles. There is limited parking at the trailhead off Belden Road. Due to multiple storms with tree falls, approach the cache diagonally. Follow the 3 large topless trees.
The Tolland State Forest is managed by the Department of Conservation and Recreation, The highlight of the forest is the
1,065-acre Otis Reservoir that is the largest recreational lake in Massachusetts. More information can be obtained on the DCR site:

The subject of this cache is the Tolland Fire Tower that was first constructed on Liar Mountain in 1915 and then replaced in 1934. The tower was a fond landmark site for all who lived and visited the area. In 2003, the tower was sold on Ebay, dismantled and lost forever from the Tolland skyline. The site of the tower footings is at N 42° 07.906’ W 073° 01.511’
Limited parking is available on Belden Road at the trailhead at N 42° 07.531’ W 073° 01.876’ with the cache about 850 yards up the trail.
The cache is located approximately 30 feet off the trail about 70 yds. before the fire tower site in an area were GPS readings were consistent. The fire tower clearing appears to be a popular party site. This is a good site for CITO but caches in this area might be susceptible to inadvertent discovery. There are several other trails that lead to the fire tower site but the trail described is the easiest and most direct.
The cache is in an ammo. box which I stocked with removable tatoos, a glow stick, a glow bracelet, a flashlight key chain, flash cards, old marbles, an assortment of coins and other items.
