Geocache Description:

A 30 cal ammo can hidden near mile marker 2 on the Tuxachanie Trail.

One in a series of caches hidden along the Tuxachanie trail. This one is located on the high land at a cut through a low sand hill, about two miles from the Hwy. 49 trailhead. With all of the sandy soil, pines, and palmettos, it’s like a little slice of north Florida around this cache.

BTW, these cuts, fills, and general piling-up of soil for the rail line was done in the early 1900’s using hand tools and mule-powered scoops, all to build a temporary rail line for logging operations. Hot work, impressive results, and today we’re left with a really great trail.

P.S. (and a hat-tip to Leftygator and the kayakingtwilbecks, some of the early finders): Bring water, especially if doing more than one cache on the Tuxachanie Trail. And on hot summer days, it’s a good idea to bring a friend along too.
