Powderface Ridge is one of the more strenuous hiking trails west
of Bragg Creek and Elbow Falls. The last 9 km of hwy 66 are closed
from Dec 1 – May 14 each winter.
Parking is available at the north end, south end or
approximately at the mid-point of the trail. We accessed the trail
from the south end, at the junction of hwy 66 and Powderface Trail
gravel road - N 50 48.305 W 114 50.540. There is parking for about
10 vehicles 150 meters or so to the west. For the mid-point parking
and trail directions, see BVPETE’s
Powderface Ridge GCXZ6P. If anyone sends us details re: the
north end parking, we’ll be glad to add them to the cache
description.
No matter where you start, you should eventually find yourself
on a beautiful sandstone ridge, with sections of exposed
(sandstone?) rock growing bright green map lichen. Views from the
ridge include Banded Peak, Mt. Cornwall and Mt. Glasglow (south),
Moose Mountain (north) and Nihahi Ridge (west).
CAUTION – The rocks in this area can be slippery when wet.
The trip down to hunt for the cache is not suitable for young
children.
You’re searching for a 1 liter, rectangular, camo-taped
lock’n’lock containing some pretty decent swag – please trade
accordingly! First to find can choose between 2006 Alberta Wild
Rose geocoin and Gerbera Daisy geocoin. Second to find wins the
remaining coin.

Guide – Bragg Creek & Sheep Valley” or contact GeoKs via
e-mail. This trail is also in the Calgary
Area Trail Mapping Project trail set.
