Geocache Description:

The South Carolina Geocachers Association (SCGA) in conjunction with the Midlands GeoHolics will be conducting a CITO cleanup event at the Congaree Creek Heritage Preserve from 9am-1pm on Saturday, July 14, 2007. This event has been scheduled to coincide with a DNR-sponsored cleanup.

Geocachers will meet near the coordinates above (which are in a parking area near the start of the Guignard Brickworks Trail) at 9:00 am on Saturday July 14. From this area, the GeoCachers will move to our assigned cleanup area. There will be several other groups assigned to other areas and duties.

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is providing gloves, bags, and drinking water. If you already have your own favorite gloves or picker-upper utensils, you might want to bring them.

For those of you with other scheduled obligations that day, please note that you are more then welcome to come and go as you please.

There will also be a drawing for door prizes sponsored by Adventure Carolina. SubStation II will provide lunch for all participants. Please try to log your "will attend" message along with your number of people before July 11 so that SubStation II will be able to plan appropriately. Of course, any last minute add-ons are welcome; we just may have to feed you to the alligators rather than feed you.

The Congaree Creek Heritage Preserve is managed by Brian Long of the South Carolina DNR as part of the Heritage Trust Program. For more information on this and other Heritage Preserves (and to find out how you can assist them) please introduce yourself to Brian or contact him at longb@dnr.sc.gov

If this is your first time here, plan to take the trail around the pond. It's a gorgeous walk, well worth the time (see the User's Web Page link above at the top). So far, there is one cache located here: Guignard Brickworks (GCA441).

Please check this listing periodically for updates. As more information becomes available, we will pass it along.
