Geocache Description:

This earthcache is located at Stage's Pond State Nature Preserve. Located in Pickaway County 5 miles north of Circleville on U.S. Route 23; proceed 1 1/2 miles east on Hagerty Road to the preserve parking lot and trail system.

Stage's Pond State Nature Preserve, dedicated August 23, 1974, is nature's own monument to the great ice fields which once covered most of Ohio 17,000 years ago.
Stage's Pond is an example of one of the distinctive features of glaciated areas, a kettle lake. As the glacier receded from this part of present-day Pickaway County, an immense chunk of ice broke free and remained behind to be covered with accumulating sands, gravels, and other glacial debris washing off the melting glacier. When the land-locked ice mass finally melted, it left a great depression in the landscape. Parking is at 39 Deg. 40.137N 082 Deg. 56.082W. For more info check out; http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/dnap/location/stages.html and http://www.stagespondnaturepreserve.info/index.htm

The coordinates will take you to the information board of the preserve. Be sure to pick up a free trail map at the info board.
In order to log a find for this earthcache you must fulfill the folowing requirements:

1) Make your way to the Kettle Lake Waterfowl Blind and post a picture of yourself and your GPS at the blind. (Be advised, this is NOT the large brown blind near the information board.)
The following is a picture of the gray Kettle Lake Blind;
You will need to take either the Meadow Trail or the Moraine Trail to reach the Kettle Lake Trail and Blind. The trail is well marked with little change in elevation.

2) At the blind, enter the waypoint 39 Deg. 40.547N 082 Deg. 56.227W into your GPS. This should be in close proximity to the opposite shore from the blind. You will need to determine the distance from the blind to the above supplied waypoint. This should give you a measurement of the width of the lake. Email me your calculation.
