Geocache Description:

This is a lovely cache, a stroll in the park and grounds of Kilkenny Castle

This is an Ammo Box full of Irish souvenirs. It is located within the Castle Gardens and please note that the castle gates close at 8.30pm. The gps co ordinates bring you to within 100 feet of the cache itself. We couldn't get a fixed reading any nearer due to the canopy. It is in the undergrowth, under the roots of a large tree just off a rabbit path. Look for the green door in the wall. Turn to face the park. Look for the rabbit path off to the right.

This is my hometown cache and my big sister is also keeping an eye on it for me so email if you notice it needing any maintenance and I or my sis shall sort it out. I visit regularly myself so no worries there.

The Castle itself is a 12th century castle remodelled in Victorian times and set in extensive parklands which was the principal seat of the Butler family, Marquesses and Dukes of Ormonde. Due to major restoration works, the central block now includes a library, drawing room, and bedrooms decorated in 1830s splendour as well as the beautiful Long Gallery. The old Castle kitchen operates as a tea room during the summer. A suite of former servants rooms is the Butler Art Gallery, which mounts frequently changing exhibitions of contemporary art.
