Geocache Description:

The story of Isaiah Necromancer

Isaiah was a hermit that made the woods around Mill Pond his home in late 1700’s. He was a visionary who worked on science that astounded and bewildered the townsfolk of the day. Isaiah often would be heard running through the area in the middle of the night. Many said he could run through the woods during the darkest nights of the year, with his eyes closed, and never hit a tree, miss a turn or even stumble. Some said he was a wizard, some thought he was an old fool, still others thought he possessed powers stemming from a special amulet that allowed him to see in the dark.

One night in late spring two evil brothers decided to pay Isaiah a visit and rob him of the amulet so they would have the powers it possessed. Isaiah heard them coming and waited for them to near his stone hut. When he could see them through one of the peep holes in the hut, Isaiah dashed out the front door with his treasure and down a series of trails into the holler. The men gave chase and almost had Isaiah when he made a sudden turn and dashed off into the night. The men stumbled about until they found the trail he Isaiah had Left. Isaiah had made it to the end of the trail where he had his horse hidden. He waited until the two brothers were almost upon him before he spurred his horse up the hill and into more woods.

Knowing he had put some distance between him and the thieves, Isaiah stopped at the top of the hill in the middle of those woods to think about what to do next. His horse got spooked by a pair of beady eyes peering out of the woods at them. The horse ran down the hill and across a stream before Isaiah gained control of him again. When he finally stopped the horse was too tired to go any further. Isaiah could hear the brothers coming closer again. He hitched his horse to a post and made a hasty run up a nearby hill. At the top he hid is treasure and disappeared into the night never to be heard from again. Some think he was killed by the brothers, some think he still wanders the woods while others think he magically hid in the treasure box. No one is certain.

The two brothers searched for Isaiah’s treasure for years. It is said that after 5 years of searching and arguing over which one of them let Isaiah get away the argument turned violent. There in the woods the two fought until one was dead. The surviving brother buried the dead one in the holler and continued his search. He was haunted for years by the spector of his dead brother in those woods. Late one night, many years later, he was stumbling through a strange part of the woods when his heart finally gave out. As he fell over a rock to the ground he spied a box hidden there. He reached for the box but life drained from him before he could touch it. It was there, next to Isaiah’s treasure he died. (The bones have all been carried away by the coyotes but his spirit still remains.)

To Find the Cache:
Start at the posted coords where you will find the stone foundation. Peer through one of the spy holes until you see a tree that is marked with fire tacks. Count the tacks and apply the offset to the original coords to get the new set of coords. Go to the new set of cords and look around for a new group of fire tacks. Count tacks and apply the appropriate offset to the new coords to get yet another set of new coords. Repeat until you find the final. (No fire tacks at the final.)

  • 1 tack = N –0.068 W -0.085
  • 2 tacks = N +0.029 W -0.023
  • 3 tacks = N +0.107 W -0.075
  • 4 tacks = N +0.145 W -0.048
  • 5 tacks = N -0.041 W +0.082
  • 1 tack next to 1 tack = N +0.095 W +0.051
  • 1 tack next to 2 tacks = N +0.041 W -0.033
  • 2 tacks next to 1 tack = N +0.116 W +0.041
  • 2 tacks next to 2 tacks = N +0.075 W -0.029
  • 2 tacks next to 3 tacks = N +0.075 W -0.029
  • 3 tacks next to 2 tacks = N -0.031 W -0.068
  • 3 tacks next to 3 tacks = N -0.143 W -0.662

This is designed as a Night Cache It could be done during the day, but I don't think it will be as fun. Please be careful whatever time of day you attempt it. There is an FTF prize of an unactivated Night Caching geocoin for the FTF at night.

Good Luck and good caching.
