Geocache Description:

This is an easy to find, close to the trailhead cache… a combo that is highly uncharacteristic of me. My ulterior motive is to lure you onto the trail so that you will want to keep right on walking until you reach one of the more strenuous mountaintop caches in the area.

The many miles of trails accessed by the North Fork Highwood Creek Trailhead are open to hiking, horses, and dirtbikes. No ATV’s are allowed. There are many campsites near the trailhead and the creek has good brook trout fishing. So go ahead… camp, fish, hike, GEOCACHE!!!!

The North Fork Highwood Creek Trailhead is located in the northwest corner of the Highwoods and is not listed in the Montana Gazetteer mapbook. You may find it helpful to obtain a map of Lewis and Clark Nat’l Forest Jefferson Division. From Great Falls, take 87 east, 228 north to its end at 331, then continue straight ahead on Highwood Rd to Burly Hill Rd to Highwood Creek Rd which takes you into the National Forest. Once in the Forestlands, the signage is very good and will easily direct you to where you want to go. This route is friendly for all vehicles. For those of you considering coming through Geyser and taking the Forest Rd northward, be aware that there are several creek fords that are not wise for low clearance vehicles to attempt.

The cache is a tupperware container located about 0.20 mi. down Trail 423
