Geocache Description:

Updates

10/15/07: Two Important Notes from the park.
1 - THERE IS A BURNING BAN IN EFFECT - so no campfires .
2 - The small lake near shelter 5 is now a mud pit thanks to our exceptional drought and you should take care to keep kids (and adults) away from this area. I suppose we could consider mud wrestling...

10/8/07: Bring chairs if you have them. There are probably not enough at the shelter for everyone at the same time. Also, it looks as if the GW5 DVD movie may not be ready in time so we'll be selling them online and shipping them.

10/1/07: We hope to have DVD copies of GeoWoodstock 5 The Movie available for purchase at $8 each during the event thanks to the creative talents and many hours of work by Tool King!

8/10/07: We will have our Annual General Membership Meeting in late afternoon before the food is served. A great opportunity to meet your elected officers, hear about what we've been doing, our future plans and give us your input!

8/10/07: A new batch of NCGO t-shirts will be ordered. Preorders will be available at our online store very soon and available for pickup at the event without paying any shipping. We will order more extra than in the past to keep a stock on hand, but the preordered shirts will cost a little less. You will also have 1-2 color options and more sizes to choose from during the preorder period than you will in the extra stock that we order.

8/18/07: NCGO T-shirts for pickup at this event ONLY are now on sale at the NCGO Store page. No shirts will be shipped before the event. Anything left over will be setup at the online store for sales in late October and can be ordered to ship at that time.

9/13/07: Schedule posted. For t-shirts orders, email nittany dave or NCGO via groundspeak.

What / When / Where

Come join us on October 20, 2007 for our 2nd annual NCGO Fall Fling. You don't want to miss the event of the season, it's sure to be as fun as last year's!

Out of state cachers, new cachers, old hands and even the curious are welcome to attend and we hope you do.

Please post a will attend log to let us know if you can come, how many people will eat dinner (adults/kids) and if you will be camping either night. We need this information to plan for food/drink purchases, activities and perhaps some other things.

We will also celebrate NCGO's 2nd anniversary as an organization. This event is just one way for us to show our appreciation for all the support our members have given throughout this year. Together, we have accomplished much this year, including hosting the world's largest, and by all accounts best, geocaching event ever - GeoWoodstock 5! This event will be considerably smaller than that one and a great chance for North Carolina geocachers and our neighbors to the north, south and west to spend a little time in a less hectic setting just getting to know each other while enjoying the 3F's of events: Food, Finds and Fellowship which result in the all important 4th F - FUN!

This year we will be at Hagan-Stone Park in Greensboro. The park offers many things including,

  • Campground with tent and RV camping - and showers!
  • Nature, hiking and biking trails
  • Horseshoes, softball & volleyball
  • Playgrounds
  • Fishing ponds
  • Geocaches to find
  • and of course, all of you!

We will have Shelter #5 reserved for Saturday. It has seating for over 100 people but we encourage you to bring your chairs to be sure you have a seat because there will be more than 100 people here.

Groups/individuals that want to set up a canopy in the general area are welcome to do so. But don't miss out on the opportunity to mingle with your fellow geocachers from NC and surrounding states at this special event.

Here is a map of the park.

Camping

See Hagan-Stone Campground information and there is Tent camping info as well. Here is a Map of the campground.

We have reserved both "group" camping areas.
The actual "Tent" areas cannot be reserved in advance but can be utilized during our event. Same goes for the RV areas. Both the Tent and RV areas are first come - first served.
In the Tent area, we are allowed to have more than 1 tent per pad, as long as we do NOT damage any vegetation AND we can have no more than 8 people at a site(pad).

Prices for camping are:
Group Area: $3 per person, per night.

Tent Area: $13 per site/$9 for Guilford County residents, per night for up to 5 people. Each additional person (max of 3 additional) is $3 per person/$2 for residents, per night.

RV Area: $16 per site/$11 Guilford County residents, per night for up to 5 people. Each additional person is $3 per person/$2 residents, per night. (There are 2 RV areas, one has both 30 and 50 amp connections, the other area only has 30 amp connections. Both have water available but not sewer connections. Dump stations are available.

There are also reduced rates for Seniors. Check the park website for up-to-date pricing on this and all other items.

TBs / Coins

..If you bring a travel bug or coin to the event that will be picked up by someone else, please log it in before coming to the event.
..If you log your personal bugs/coins, please log them out of the event in a timely fashion.
..If you pick up bugs and/or coins, please also log them out of the event in a timely fashion.
Have some consideration for the owners of these travellers who often do not like them to visit events and are always interested in where they go and if they are still being circulated as desired. Thank you!
